Yes, it would be a hassle. But then the first and simplest solution of all - contact the seller before ordering - was also rejected as it requires too much effort, so I doubt any solution will work. Maybe the simplest solution is to both want and buy more LEGO. I find it hard to believe that a buyer cannot find a reasonably valuable but light piece in most stores (a minifigure, a torso, a decorated brick, etc) or that the store remains the most competitive if a much larger value unwanted item needs to be added.
