| Why do German sellers charge you 5% paypal fee? I never understood this fee.
I have never charged my customers a paypal fee???
|
according to Paypal's terms USA sellers are prohibited from doing passing
that expanse to their buyers. European sellers are not bound by those rules.
I wouldn't charge paypal fees even if i was allowed to- no buyer likes to
do math while shopping for their favorite toy.
I'm surprised that Bricklink's admin allows this because they don't
make money on fees so sellers in EU can reduce their commission to Bricklink
by lowering their part cost and charging extra fee like this.

The same goes for lot limit fees, packaging fees or whatever fees sellers charge.

I do charge (the actual) paypal fees, because as a seller I need to pay these
fees to paypal for receiving money. And I find that it can be a significant amount
of money.
In the future I might change this, but not yet.
I also charge a 'handling' fee, but am considering to no longer do this.
My handling fee goes toward package material.
It takes a while to find how to price your items so you can cover all costs and
still make a bit of money.
Lot limit fees I never understood and I tend to avoid stores that have these.
I also avoid stores that charge a flat rate of 5% paypal fees, because that is
not the actual fee.
|
As a seller, I also have to pay the paypal fees too. Everyone does.
But I know that if I had to take paypal away, many many orders wouldn't happen.
So it's a cost of doing business.
The thing that you won't know is how many orders don't you get because
of these fees being added on and what difference does that make to your bottom
line.
One of the first things I check is if you charge me extra to pay you.

To piggyback on this point, if stores were operating as brick and mortar store
fronts handling over the counter transactions, the credit card machine vendors
charge monthly fees and rental charges on top of the percentage of each card
swipe. Paypal is actual one of the least expensive ways to receive payment. For
small businesses, some banks even charge volume check and cash deposit fees if
too many pieces of paper come across their counter. Everyone has their hand out
when you're making money.
