Would you say, that one should use the 87407 over the 32198 whenever possible?
Or in other words: Unless you have space restrictions, is the 87407 flat out
the better choice?
I'm basically asking, because I'm unsure what gear I should extend my
stock on to build future models with.
I'm trying to reduce alternative items and only get the better (not necessarily
newer) version now.
Because when I re-started my LEGO "carreer", I didn't really know
what I was doing and bought a lot of old parts, where I later learned, that better
and cheaper alternatives exist.

You do know that there's a major difference between the two gears? One has
an axle hole, the other just has a pin hole. The pin hole will not be useful
in a gear train or anything, really, other than as decor  (not totally true,
I know, but pretty much!)
