The main picture is showing two sides of the same buffer but buyers claim they
were tricked by the picture into thinking they were buying a set of two buffers
per entry.
Or at the very least put a disclaimer that they are buying one buffer and the
picture is showing the variation of the part on both its sides.
While I believe the picture was well intended- it is hurting newer buyers (although
the last one making this claim had 36 feedbacks) and will potentially hurt sellers
and site credibility.
Another solution would be to only show the picture of the side of the part that
is impacted by the variation.
Thank you

There are several examples of this kind of concern within the BL catalog. In
fact, when I create a listing for an item that I feel would be better served
with a custom pics showing both sides say, I'm compelled to also add to the
listing comments, the fact that it's actually one item for sale, avoiding
potential buyer confusion: https://store.bricklink.com/popsicle&itemID=387616901

So I empathize

Appreciate the empathy and we’ll definitely add such notes or put a custom picture
but was hoping to fix the problem at the source- specifically on items such as
train buffers which most train cars require 2 buffers so you can also see the
buyers point of view.

I also believe that the original picture of this part was showing only a single
buffer so having to monitor every single catalog picture entry in our inventory
periodically is an unproductive use of time.
We now have a buyer who’s trying to leverage this into getting discounts and
other benefits to compensate for misleading them.
Thanks again

Just to clarify: my anecdote wasn't intended to deflect from your ask, but
to bolster it using another kind of example of the same general issue.

I've had the same problem and the root cause (the photo) needs to be addressed.
If the catalog photo is kept it should be annotated to say "Top" and
"Bottom" or something to that effect.

We now have a buyer who’s trying to leverage this into getting discounts and
other benefits to compensate for misleading them.

Your buyer sounds like a con artist.

That's a bit harsh as they intend to buy the exact amount of same buffers
and was (somewhat
understandably) ticked about having to pay again for shipping.
We sent them a good gesture coupon that should cover shipping as they placed
an order that included many other items that were not contested.
cheers,

+1

We sent them a good gesture coupon that should cover shipping as they placed
an order that included many other items that were not contested.

Turned into a win; with another order, another repeat buyer added to your store
and helping a BL user become better informed, potentially averting drama down-the-road
for other vendors I would say that's how it's done well, so well done!

  cheers,
THB

I don't think so, given I don't have the benefit of first-hand knowledge
and based on your earlier post:

"We now have a buyer who’s trying to leverage this into getting discounts
and
other benefits to compensate for misleading them."

Sounds like it's been worked out, which is good.

If you're willing to upload an image to the catalog, you can submit a Catalog
change/add request to change the current image to an image of the part in question
that annotates the "top" and "bottom".

When submitting an image it is preferable that it is done from your own work,
and not someone else's image. That is, you should not modify another image
without the original uploader's permission.

As for your buyer in your other post in this thread, they sound like they have
no idea that they are by default receiving one of this type of part.

Cheers ...

We're grateful to those who addressed this so quickly as there are certainly
better options for things to do on a Friday night than modifying a Bricklink
entry
Our friday night included watching 'Old Dads' and 'Leo' on Netflix,
highly recommend both!.
