We have a serious problem with some information papers. Sometimes they are identified
as book and sometimes as instructions.

I think it is better to consider them as book if it includes information about
how one can use a motor,...
and a paper if it includes information on how to safely use a battery box,...
in various sets.

Both of these came in language variations. For example the book of 103-1 came
in 14 language variations!

I think we need to mark the instructions for delete and add them as book or paper
information to the inventory of their appropriate sets.
Otherwise it takes years and maybe forever to resolve this situation, as mentioned
here.

That doesn't surprise me.

Would you like to explain your thought process behind that a little more? It
is hard to understand why one would be in one place and another in another place.

It would be good to understand more about these items so that we can get a better
understanding of where all of them should be ideally located. Once we have a
plan, we could execute it.

We cannot mark instructions for deletion. To remove an instructions entry, there
can be no listings in stores, in old orders, in current orders, etc., so this
is something that would need to be handled at the BrickLink office level if we
would decide to do anything.

Unfortunately, there are many instructions entries that we would love to get
rid of but can't.

The safety paper for battery box is added as "paper" for set

Set No: 7720 Name: Diesel Freight Train Set, battery
*
7720-1 (Inv) Diesel Freight Train Set, battery
402 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 1980
Sets: Train: 4.5V

The same or similar safety information paper is used for train

Set No: 7722 Name: Steam Cargo Train, battery
*
7722-1 (Inv) Steam Cargo Train, battery
466 Parts, 3 Minifigures, 1 Book, 1985
Sets: Train: 4.5V
that were produced in 1985 and 1986.
Since 1987, they changed the paper information and this was is considered as
"book"!

Book No: binfbateu3 Name: Information about the battery box (104278)
*
binfbateu3 Information about the battery box (104278)
Books: Informational Book: Technic: 4.5V
and its other language variations.
If I add the early versions "paper"s (in various languages), they cannot
be added as alternate to the book binfbateu3. So I guess this should be changed
from book to paper.

And, this paper information is considered as instructions for service pack 5005-1

Instruction No: 5005 Name: Battery Box 4.5V, Gray
*
5005-1 Battery Box 4.5V, Gray
Instructions: Service Packs

We have instructions 107. Its photo is uploaded by a Canadian user so the photo
is the Canadian version and non-Canadian sellers see that and don't upload
their European version as the instructions 107. Instead they list it under the
book:

Book No: 98550eu1 Name: Facts about the 4.5v battery motor (98550-I-eng/fr/sp.)
*
98550eu1 Facts about the 4.5v battery motor (98550-I-eng/fr/sp.)
Books: Informational Book: Train: 4.5V

Book No: 98550eu2 Name: Fakta om 4,5 V batterimotoren (98550-II-da/sv/fi.)
*
98550eu2 Fakta om 4,5 V batterimotoren (98550-II-da/sv/fi.)
Books: Informational Book: Train: 4.5V

Book No: 98550eu3 Name: Einiges über den 4,5V Batteriemotor. (98550-III-ty/fr/ho.)
*
98550eu3 Einiges über den 4,5V Batteriemotor. (98550-III-ty/fr/ho.)
Books: Informational Book: Train: 4.5V

Book No: 98550os1 Name: Factos acerca do motor de pilhas 4,5V. (98550-IV-po/it/ja.)
*
98550os1 Factos acerca do motor de pilhas 4,5V. (98550-IV-po/it/ja.)
Books: Informational Book: Train: 4.5V

Book No: 98553eu Name: Einiges über den 4,5V Batteriemotor. (98553-ty/fr/ho.)
*
98553eu Einiges über den 4,5V Batteriemotor. (98553-ty/fr/ho.)
Books: Informational Book: Train: 4.5V

This problem is resolved for set 103-1 as all language variations are listed
as book and this set has no instructions.

As far as I know, this books were not included to other train sets (but the books
of 103 were included to other 4.5v trains)

P.S. the Canadian 107 is similar to its US counterpart

Set No: 901 Name: 4.5V Universal Motor Set
*
901-1 (Inv) 4.5V Universal Motor Set
29 Parts, 1976
Sets: Universal Building Set: Supplemental
meaning it did not come with train wheels:

Part No: wheel2ac01 Name: Train Wheel Spoked for Motor with Black Train Rim for 4.5V & 12V Locomotive Wheels (wheel2a / trainrim)
*
wheel2ac01 (Inv) Train Wheel Spoked for Motor with Black Train Rim for 4.5V & 12V Locomotive Wheels (wheel2a / trainrim)
Parts: Wheel & Tire Assembly
and isntead came with

Part No: bb0019 Name: Wheel Spoked 2 x 2 with Stud
*
bb0019 Wheel Spoked 2 x 2 with Stud
Parts: Wheel

Shall I create a new set for this version of the set?

I assume if we are going to remove instructions 107, then we should do for 901-1
(and the Canadian version of 107) for consistency.
At the end of the day, this can be considered as book because there is nothing
to build and this is just a supplemental set to be added to other "motorizable"
sets.

The instructions of set

Set No: 8720 Name: Motor Set 9 V
*
8720-1 (Inv) Motor Set 9 V
56 Parts, 1990
Sets: Technic: Supplemental
may be considered as a book. (To be discussed)

This is the "book" or instructions of 8720 on peeron

http://www.peeron.com/scans/8720-1/

but I owned this set and mine was different.
I believe all 9v motors (excluding Dacta sets?) came with the same book and they
should be added as book. For example, I got a used copy of

Set No: 8094 Name: Control Center
*
8094-1 (Inv) Control Center
554 Parts, 1 Book, 2 Gear, 1990
Sets: Technic: Universal Building Set
and it included a D/F/I versions of this book with ID number 117882.
It can easily be verified to check what 9v sets came with this book.

7861-1 (Inv) Lighting Set Electric 12v

Set No: 7863 Name: Remote Controlled Point Motor
*
7863-1 (Inv) Remote Controlled Point Motor
6 Parts, 1980
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

The box art and instructions in 1980 shows the first versions of this set, i.e.
the built does not come with black 4x6 plate,....

Also this booklet came with three (or more?!) language variations (each booklet
came with multiples languages like D/F/NL,...)

Year 1981: this set first came with an booklet that was also included in six
sets:

Set No: 7858 Name: Remote Controlled Points Right 12v
*
7858-1 (Inv) Remote Controlled Points Right 12v
12 Parts, 1980
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

Set No: 7859 Name: Remote Controlled Points Left 12v
*
7859-1 (Inv) Remote Controlled Points Left 12v
12 Parts, 1980
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

Set No: 7860 Name: Remote Controlled Signal 12v
*
7860-1 (Inv) Remote Controlled Signal 12v
20 Parts, 1980
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

Set No: 7861 Name: Lighting Set Electric 12v
*
7861-1 (Inv) Lighting Set Electric 12v
24 Parts, 1980
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

Set No: 7862 Name: Remote Controlled Decoupling
*
7862-1 (Inv) Remote Controlled Decoupling
14 Parts, 1981
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

Set No: 7863 Name: Remote Controlled Point Motor
*
7863-1 (Inv) Remote Controlled Point Motor
6 Parts, 1980
Sets: Train: Supplemental: 12V

The box art and instructions in 1981 shows the second versions of this set, i.e.
the built does come with black 4x6 plate,....

Also this booklet came with three (or more?!) language variations (each booklet
came with multiples languages like D/F/NL,...)

Years 1982-1991: the booklet entirely changed, became smaller, and was only included
in this set. Since 1982, each supplemental set 7858, 7859,... came with its own
different instructions/booklet.

The box art and instructions shows the second versions of this set as it was
in 1981, i.e. the built does come with black 4x6 plate,....

Also this booklet came with three (or more?!) language variations (each booklet
came with multiples languages like D/F/NL,...)

A solution: one easy solution would be to remove instructions for all supplemental
sets
so that we can add all variations of booklets to the inventory. Then the first
and second versions of 8964's book can be added to other sets' inventory
too.
Note that in
1980 and in 1981, the majority of the supplement sets (7858, 7859,...7863) came
with the exact same booklet as 7864.
I think 7856 an 7857 did never come with any instructions/booklet.
