Most on here are aware of the 'confusion/difficulty' with separating/identifying
the colors below:

1. Light Gray vs. Light Bluish Gray
2. Dark Gray vs. Dark Bluish Gray

However, few more colors pose similar challenges

3. Dark Green vs. Black
4. Light Orange vs. Yellow

Yes, like most men (statistically), it is not easy for me to distinguish some
specific colors. Hence the question: Is there a way (special light) for one to
easily separate/sort parts with similar colors?

For example, to separate TransOrange from TransNeonOrange, I got myself a black
light bulb, and voila, works like a charm. Some colors are easy to single out
under bright sun, but it's the middle of winter here are we got few more
months before the sun is not shy anymore.

  1. Light Gray vs. Light Bluish Gray
2. Dark Gray vs. Dark Bluish Gray

Any decent bright white light source.

  3. Dark Green vs. Black
4. Light Orange vs. Yellow

I've never had a problem here, but presumably again just a decent white light
source.

I use something similar to this and it’s a game changer. A Powerful light on
a movable stand to help check parts for damage by getting the perfect light angle
and for separating colours

Bright white light is the key to easy colour sorting. I have an eight foot wide
shelf over my sorting table and I simply attached a strong LED light strip to
the underside to illuminate the entire area. No messing with any light source
angles, since it seems to come from all sides now. The LED light strips are very
common and reasonably priced so it's not hard to find one that will work
for you. (I actually doubled up the strip since it was 16' long - giving
me twice the brightness across my 8' wide table)

I use a Brightech LightView Pro Flex 2.25 Magnifier. I would never want to work
again without one. It's really good for checking quality and identifying
colors and creating images.

Look for a "daylight" colour lamp and not a "warm white" of "soft
white". The warm/soft colours are usually more pleasant to use in homes,
so they are more common. The warm colour includes more yellow light, and that
makes the difference between these colours much more difficult to see.

Statiscally, the rate of colour blindness in males is 1 in 12. I'm one of
those who has lived with red/green colour blindness all of my life. If you believe
that you may be colorblind, and have not been tested, I recommend you do so.

The worst colors for me are:

Reddish Brown vs. Dark Red.
Azure vs. Medium Blue.
Azure vs. Lavender.
Light Orange vs. Yellow, vs. Lime.
Dark tan vs. Nougat, green, olive, etc. etc.

With a lot of practice sorting through colours, I've found I've become
better at distinguishing these shades, most of the time. I'm pretty good
with the greys vs bluish greys now. Also, these methods help:

1. Bright light. It is amazing just how low the light levels are in a average
room with normal light fixtures. A good desk lamp or other supplemental light
source is a must when sorting lego colors.

2. Daylight, or a "Day" bulb. A desk lamp with a daylight bulb really
helps.

3. Reference bricks in the difficult colors. Get some parts in the needed colors,
label them, and keep them near your work area for comparison.

Actually, one of the biggest challenges of being color blind, is that people
reflexively refuse to believe you when you tell them you can't see certain
colors. About 100% of the time, they will immediately say: "Really? What
colour is my shirt? What color is this? What color is that". It's very
strange, really, and I can't imagine people doing something like that for
any other problem, like hearing, for example.

Hehe, funny… from the outside.  Must be annoying though.

I guess people think they know what hearing problems are: we all experienced
not hearing something clearly or at all because we were too far, or had something
over the ears, or the volume was too low….
That doesn’t cover all the hearing problems but we may still think we do understand
what they are.

Colour blindness, well, either you don’t know what they are and are curious /
can’t wrap your mind around it, or you know a bit… and still can’t wrap your
mind around it.
