| Hi
For part 47154c01, Electric, Motor 9V 4 x 4 x 3 1/3, would it be possible to
differentiate between the two different colour bases (dark gray and dark bluish
gray)? At present there is only one option?
Reason I ask is that I think (I may be wrong), but set 4094 uses dark gray, set
4895 uses dark bluish gray. I just received the one on the right from a BL seller
to replace the original one on the left which doesn't work. Not really the
seller's fault, but no way of knowing when checking the BL inventory.
Thanks

Seems like a pretty easy fix. Two inventories to correct and 2 pictures to upload.
Can you take individual pics of the Dark Gray on and the Dark Bluish Gray one?

It seems reasonable to me, but I'm not actually in charge. Where is the
part number molded?

I have no idea how change requests work, but here are the two photos (happy to
take more as required). The part number is actually molded to the internal face
of the top of the transparent section, so it reads backwards (see photo).

That's why it was done the way it was done and it might be a reason we don't
get to switch it the easy way.

So what's the process, wait for an admin to pick up on this thread, or is
there some sort of form to complete?

Don't worry, we will come to that. But for now new sets and inventories takes
priority.
Can we use your images for new catalog entries?

But on LDraw (https://www.ldraw.org/parts/official-part-lookup.html?folder=parts&partid=47154c01)
the separate parts have separate numbers, with 47155 the top part and 47154 the
bottom. If that is true, it really should have been a DBG / Dark Gray "47154c01
with Trans-Clear top" and not the current Trans-Clear "47154c01 with DBG or Dark
Gray bottom".
However, LDraw also introduced the fixed bottom color, which is copied by Studio.
Difficult to change if not all the way, starting at LDraw.

Why was this handled this way?
The difference is the color of the base. It's an obsolete item.
Entry should have been
Electric, Motor 9V 4 x 4 x 3 1/3 Trans-Clear with Black Conducting Plate
listed by the base color like hips and legs
Do we think LEGO will produce this obsolete motor again? AND with colors other
than Trans-Clear?

The entry was handled this way so that sellers would have an opportunity to get
their inventories sorted correctly by the color of the base since the prior entry
did not specify this. Marking an item for deletion triggers messages to sellers
that the catalog team cannot easily do in any other way. If the entry would not
have been split, sellers would know nothing about the change to the way the part
was defined.

Randy

I think you are missing my point. We now have 3 items in the catalog that should
be one. Even when all sellers correct their listings there will be 2.
This part is trans clear with a variable color base. Not the other way around.
The new listings are now for 2 of the same part that should be only 1 differentiated
by the color (base color).
We already have the horrible sticker naming that are identical but came in different
sets so have multiple entries, which at least has been fixed somewhat.
I know I am wasting my time as this entry is 'done' but maybe next time?
Mis-cataloging items because it triggers an email notice is not a great plan,
FYI I did not get an e-mail notice.
If BL needs to create an e-mail/ messaging scheme related to certain catalog
changes, then that would be a good change. And sounds like a needed change.

I am not missing anything. There were numerous reasons why it had to be done
in exactly this way. I am not going to go into detail about all of them here,
but I listed one of the reasons above in my last response.
| This part is trans clear with a variable color base. Not the other way around.

Each situation is given its own solution. This situation called for the solution
that we now have. Other situations may be worked out differently. There is not
a one-size-fits-all plan of attack we use for everything.
| Mis-cataloging items because it triggers an email notice is not a great plan,
|
They are not miscatalogued. They were miscatalogued before. They are now correctly
catalogued because they describe the parts exactly as they are and are in the
correct inventories. You may not like the current solution to the problem this
entry had, but it is the one that this situation required.
| FYI I did not get an e-mail notice.
|
Marking items for deletion does not trigger an email notice. It triggers a notification
in your profile that items you have listed have been marked for deletion.
| If BL needs to create an e-mail/ messaging scheme related to certain catalog
changes, then that would be a good change. And sounds like a needed change.
|
We have been pushing for this for years and years, and we are in the exact same
spot we were years and years ago. I don't have high hopes for this changing
any time soon, if ever.
Cheers,
Randy
