Quite genius, I must say. Though there is always a bit of clash in colors since
Modulex uses a different color sceme (and plastic?)

Can you not attach the 1x1 M bricks into a clip? They wouldn't be upright
but at least they'd be attached.

They couldn't stand side by side because the clip is going to hold it crooked.

Yes, 2×3 fits under x×2 normal at end if hasn't ribs, so = older or plate.
1×3's also fit 1×2's with no pillars.
