Have one universal cart that has lists of all of the shops beneath it. Example:
eBay;s cart page. It's too hard to keep track of 30 different stores AND
pay separately.

After you've checked out (http://www.bricklink.com/orderPlaced.asp) or before?

Doesn't change having to pay separately.

So, you want bricklink to behave like eBay so you don't have to pay everyone
individually?

I wonder what it is recently with people coming here and wanting it to behave
like something else when that something else already exists.

Since you have 0 feedback, maybe just try accepting the way it is at this moment
and see if something is needed rather than trying to change something

Why come down on a new member who essentially is making the exact same suggestion
that a member who has been around for three years made 2 days ago?
http://www.bricklink.com/message.asp?ID=855571

It is possible this new member was simply trying to help and there is no membership
length criteria for making suggestions. If new members never could place orders
but also could never make suggestions to help themselves, no one would get sales.

I'd say this new member's perspective strengthens the argument for auto-check
out. New member(s) used to something else are confused by BrickLink's non
standard system of online commerce. Confusion has the potential to lead to loss
of sales/revenue.

They aren't actually talking about automated checkout.
They are talking about buying from x stores, logging into paypal, making one
payment or one batch of payments to pay for all of their orders.
It's integration with PayPal.

That wasn't my understanding of the suggestion. He said a global cart with
individual shops under there - I don't think he is advocating for paying
only one individual for items from multiple shops.

He said "It's too hard to keep track of 30 different stores AND
pay separately."

in other words, keeping track of 30 different stores AND paying for them separately
is too hard.

In his comment back to me, he said 'Doesn't change having to pay separately.'
His issue seems to be having to pay them separately.

Seller 1 sends him an invoice, seller 2, seller 3... .seller 30

He wants to pay them all at the same time.
Not necessarily in one payment, but let's call it a payment batch.

Now, if seller 30 doesn't send an invoice for 4 days, possibly to pay them
all at one time, he would wait.

eBay only had that happen with PayPal after they bought them.

And why come down on them for it?
Would you go into a restaurant and tell the chef what to do with soup without
ever orderering it first?

No, but if he served me soup on a plate with only a knife to eat it with, I sure
would suggest he try a bowl and a spoon next time.

(sarcastically) try to order the soup then.
This is a new user who created a profile on September 20th, asked the question
on the 21st, so again, did the OP 'try' to order from 30 stores and was
confused, or is simply a suggestion without trying first really worth merit.

Sure, anyone can make a suggestion, but the same kind of suggestions that changes
a task from 2 clicks to 1 click, I also will comment negatively on.

Negatively on the suggestion, sure. Negatively on the individual suggesting it,
I wouldn't but I suppose you are within your rights to do so.

How often would this be needed?
Is the current process to onerous?

Yes, the current process is more onerous than standard online commerce websites.

If you ordered from 5 stores, 2 that only accepted IBAN, 2 that were fine with
paypal and one lives next door to you and you were going to pay cash, how would
you handle it.

I can buy things off of walmart, target and TRU, all intending to use paypal,
but I still have to log into each site, place the order and pay for them separately.

I've made BIN's on ebay that doesn't give me the option to pay for
other purchases at the same time, I can't commit to buying it unless I do
so right now.

Do mistakes happen that this process will correct or circumvent?

I get automated check out. That's not the same thing.

My mistake then, I didn't think he meant to pay with only one transaction
for multiple stores. I don't think that would be a good system here or anywhere
that I can think of. Sorry for my mistake and subsequent thoughts on that mistake.

I don't know if he placed an order, but I thought I say a previous thread
he started trying to get help placing an order. so I do think if he had trouble
placing an order that it is legitimate that he make a suggestion that he thinks
may help others who may also be confused.

Sorry again for my misunderstanding.

How is that not a good system? It's all on one site. Look; there would be
problen if one seller HAD ALL THE ITEMS I'd desire, and quantity, but hell.
That's a miracle.
eBay does it perfectly. Do I want BL to be a LEGO eBay? No.
