Yes, it’s the same as LEGO using 3001/2/3old moulds for (modern) 3001/2/3 trans-colours.
The catalogue says they are modern 3001/2/3 bricks and no one complains.

My comparison would be 3004 and 3065, both in production, but with specific connectivity
and usages. 3065 has had some solid versions in the past (and could in the future),
just as 46212 has. These are distinct parts in multiple ways and should not be
combined.
