I'm sorry this happened, it is an expensive mistake. Hopefully you can find out something more from your government website. Best wishes The problem is that a lot of sellers do not know how to handle the IOSS information correctly, most of them think that attaching a printout of the document to the package is sufficient. As for getting it back from the Tax services, good luck with that. Here in the Netherlands we have to ask the postal services for dispensation to claim back the VAT on their behalf with the tax services, since they were the ones that pay the taxes, not you (you pay it to the postal services and they pay the tax service) and of course you still have to pay the handling fee.
