All of my 23221 are noticeably different in length (and longer than what the
name describes). Is this a common issue?
Four of these (all except the shortest one, the ones with the brighter green
rubber bands - I don't believe those are LEGO bands) are from a used copy
of 7690. The other one is from my 2007 copy of set 7691.

Of course, it is very hard to make these not bend so much... The baseplate in
the image is 48x48. The brick separators mark the lengths when straightened outs.
This increased length has pretty significant impact on 7690, putting quite a
lot of stress on the bricks. The shortest one is just short of 33 studs long,
the longest is 40.

LEGO describes these as 252 mm (31.5 studs).

The 2 instructions show them to be the same part number. Maybe someone cut them shorter for a project? I've done that before with a razor knife. In Catalog, WOLKsite writes: [...]
