  hi there.

i was wondering if there is somewhere in a MOC to designate alternative colours?

maybe in the middle of your build you have a random support block. you've
used a black one, but it can be any colour at all.

or maybe you used blueish gray for a few parts, but in fact these could easily
all be another shade of grey.

is it possible to mark these as "similar" or "alternative" colours? it might
shave off a few £ when it comes down to buying the bricks.

thanks.

If you’re talking about here, in a Wanted List, then you can use the “Not Applicable”
(non-)colour.  In WLs, it means “any colour.”  In search results, you’ll be shown
all the lots that match the parts, whatever their colours are.  With Auto-Select
or EasyBuy, it should be the cheapest colour that’s chosen.  (“Should” because
it may not be the absolute cheapest as it also depends on the stores already
selected for other parts.)

Note that it doesn’t work for “reverse” searches, when you’re searching an order
in your WLs: because a part in an order has a colour, it can’t be matched to
the parts with no colour in your WLs.

If you’re talking about Studio, the dedicated forum for Studio and PartDesigner
is https://forum.bricklink.com/ (hover over the red Studio icon on every page,
then click “Studio Forum”).

Please search the forum for your question before posting a new one (the search
box is in the very dark grey banner).
There’s indexes of known bugs and suggestions that you can browse first:
Studio: https://forum.bricklink.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=5579
PartDesigner: https://forum.bricklink.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=5589

And the short answer for Studio is: no, you have to select a real colour for
your parts.  Though, you may use a rare colour (or one that’s not used elsewhere)
to mark them and then change it to “Not Applicable” once in a WL.
The suggestion to add a special colour to Studio is here: https://forum.bricklink.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=6124
